We Rhode Islanders have organized ourselves into more than one thousand nonprofits, community groups, and governmental agencies that specifically take care of our natural environment in one way or another. That doesn't count farms (about 1250 or so of those), or landscaping and other "green" businesses (another couple of thousand). Environmental organizations also include various academic departments and schools around the state. Many businesses, colleges and universities, professional associations further organize themselves into formal or informal collaborations and coalitions for conservation and environmental causes.
The Providential Gardener aims to collect and index basic information about all kinds of groups that impact our natural environment ~ quite a daunting task, because when you think about it, really EVERYBODY impacts our natural environment. What you'll find in the Rhode Island Organization Directory for the foreseeable future is just the tip of the iceberg.
