RI Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) is the main trash and recycling center in our state. All cities and towns except Little Compton send their trash here.
For questions about what and/or how to recycle specific items, see the RIRRC A-to-Z Recycling List. Also, each week RIRRC staff write "Trash Tutorials" in the Providence Journal, answering readers' questions about effective recycling methods. ProvGardener links to them here. These columns are offered free online, for 30 days at providencejournal.com. Subscribers will be able to read all of the articles in the ProvGardener list.
Household hazardous waste should be taken to one of the EcoDepots held on Saturdays throughout the year, About half of the EcoDepots are at the Johnston Landfill, and half at various locations all over the state. A complete list is in pdf on the RIRRC website, but you will find all of them in the RI Environmental Calendar in this website.
Tours can be arranged for groups between March and October. It is a very interesting tour -- and you may see the bald eagles that live near the Central Landfill as a bonus. Get a preview in this video.
