This website aims to describe Rhode Island by showing who does what to take care of this place. It highlights constructive, collaborative, and cooperative endeavors.
Rube Goldberg would be delighted by the incredibly complicated way we take care of Rhode Island! There are thousands of environment-related associations, commissions, boards, departments, academic specializations, nonprofits, and businesses involved.
I started out thinking about ENVIRONMENT and believed I could limit this website to that general topic. The natural world, the Earth, is our home and our lives depend on it. It's not "the environmentalists" over there and then the rest of us. Human beings are creatures; we are all part of the environment! The Earth is a very interesting, large, and complex place. Here in Rhode Island, we are responsible for a small bit of it, approximately 48 miles by 37 miles in the northeast part of the North American continent.
Despite its tiny size, Rhode Island requires a lot of work to take care of it properly. And Rhode Islanders have lots of activities to enjoy -- so many, that we can't keep track of it all in our heads. To find what interests us can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. ProvGardener's goal is to make it easy for every Rhode Islander to find what interests them about our tiny part of the planet by organizing and categorizing all of the activity and groups so we can each find the best way to pitch in, explore, and enjoy this great place, Rhode Island.
