Covid-19 Info on ProvGardener
- ProvGardener's RI Covid-19 Blog
- Tracking the Incidence of Covid-19 in RI for summaries of updates from RI.gov press releases
- Table of Comparison of WHO Data concerning Italy and US Cases
- US Federal Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Notes which are currently incomplete. Organizing the tsunami of info coherently is something of a challenge.
18 new cases, 124 total. Many cases associated with domestic travel. Topics in today's briefing include new provisions for childcare and eldercare and plans to borrow to keep state government running. Good first day for K-12 distance learning, huge increase in unemployment claims, and emphasis on mental health support resources. Governor wants to start moving gradually back to normal as soon as possible, but testing needs to get up to 600-800 tests a day, with much more contact tracing.

The Coronavirus Task Force headed by VP Pence at the request of Pres Trump held a briefing this afternoon.
President: "But I’m not interested in myself. I’m interested in the American people. We have to get this going. We have millions and millions of jobs that were solid as a rock three weeks ago. And today, there could be questions.
"And the faster we get it going, the more likely it is that those stores, little businesses, big businesses, medium-sized businesses open up. And we’ll get it going very fast. I really believe this is a pent-up demand. I think that as soon as we say, “Let’s go” — and it’s going to be pretty soon. It’s going to be pretty soon. It’s going to be sooner than people would think. We’ve — again, we’re in a position to take care of our country, but at the same time, to have the country really — really go up like a rocket ship economically. And that’s great for jobs, it’s great for everything else.""

Quotes/paraphrases from Cuomo's press briefing on 3/24/20:
"not to exercise that power [DPA] is inexplicable to me" regarding Defense Production Act
[Governor gives a clear idea of what the president could do with the DPA to expedite manufacturing of all the PPE supplies, beds, ventilators, etc., needed]
Not releasing ventilators in the stockpile --at the time of this briefing 400 ventilators had been promised from the stockpile. [later on 3/24 FEMA announced another 4000 were being sent to NY - https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/feds-shipping-4000-more-ventilators-to-new...
Prioritization at the federal level necessary
Smart way to do this - move the ventilators around as needed. Cuomo promised to do this
Economy vs. Public Health - No CONTEST
How much is one life worth?
