What We've Been Breathing

I knew it wasn't fun living in the recent heat and humidity. But then a friend sent me a link to a July 21, 2013, NY Times op ed, The Summer Soup, which is a rather appalling way to think about air, filled with aerosols of auto exhaust, skin particles, starch, spores, and restaurant fat, among other "goodies."

The author, William Bryant Logan, published last year a well-received book, Air: the Restless Shaper of the World, which goes into the history and science of air, and other unexpected subjects such as air/sky in art. Logan is a member of the faculty of the NY Botanical Garden and an arborist working in Brooklyn.

Some links that might interest you about this book are an NPR interview with the author (6 minutes), an interview on WNYC (30 minutes), and a review in the Wall Street Journal (8/17/2012).
