Adventures in RI Adult Education #1

January 21, 2015 ~ I have set myself a task of finding out on the web how I would get a high school equivalency credential in Rhode Island if I needed one. So far I have spent several hours and have found many broken links, lots of stuff addressed to administrators and educators, and what the test costs, but very little useful information. I should have been documenting my exploration of this information swamp as I went along, but I'll do so going forward. The process of finding out how  to get a high school equivalency credential is an education in itself.

Today I looked for information on the Governor's Workforce Board and found the record at the Secretary of State's website for it. I wanted to find out more about its Adult Education and Literacy Committee, so I started reading the minutes of the Workforce Board to see any reports of that committee. In the June 19, 2014, minutes, I found a reference to "RIAgent" and wondered whether it existed.

Adult Education and Literacy Committee ~ Chair Howes asked Robert Nangle to provide an update on the Adult Education and Literacy Committee. R. Nangle reported, at the last meeting, the committee discussed the GED testing costs and waivers, new legislation, and the demonstration of RIAgent, a beta portal for adult learners to access resources on a single site. R. Nangle suggested the portal be presented to the full Board.

Lo and behold, it appears to have useful, up-to-date information in it, such as times and places of Adult Basic and Secondary Education classes. But does anyone know about this yet? I did not see (or maybe I missed this every time) any other reference to RIAgent at the RI Department of Education (RIDE) website or any of the dozens other websites I visited in my quest for information useful to somebody seeking this credential.
